Gibson Rich Era Style 3 Banjo
Price: $3,800.00 USD
Up for sale is a Rich Era Gibson Style 3 made in December of 1991. The serial/FON on the banjo rim is 3 - 9112 - 165. The Rich Era of Gibson banjos are known for the improved quality control, and better overall sound than Gibson banjos of prior decades and this one is no exception. This particular piece has a good, dry tone with the depth you would expect from Mahogany. I went through the banjo, had the neck reset and it is setup with a new Huber head and bridge. Plenty of "attack" when played and will cut through a jam or into a mic for stage use with no issues.
The banjo was well played in a previous life, but not abused. There are some minor dings on the resonator but no major signs of buckle rash. Some minor finish checking is present, befitting a 35 year old instrument. The original tuners are present and work well. The neck is in great playable shape (frets have plenty of life left) with a comfortable and low action. There is finish checking at the volute of the neck and minor scratches in other places as well.
The metal hardware, as pictured, is frosted over. I've been told this is common with instruments of this era and it can be polished clean if so desired (I did test this on the armrest, which cleaned up with some polish, elbow grease, and some Flatt and Scruggs playing in the background). But, that's the new owner's choice, to clean or not to clean.
All proper Gibson parts are present; USA marked flange, Gibson marked ring, etc. The banjo will ship for free in the lower 48 in the pictured Gator brand hard case. No trades. The pictured strap DOES NOT come with the banjo (I installed it to test the banjo at a recent gig with my band).
$3,800 OBO. Thanks for looking!
